...that when I walked past the break room just now, I overheard people arguing about the Lord of the Rings....or that I recognized that this was the topic of the overheard argument simply by overhearing the word "Strider"?

the writing is the action

something tells me I should be writing.
something tells me it's silly not to write.
i enjoy writing, so why not be happy?
the tap tap tapping of the keys -- i heard it on the radio
(environmental noise)
this morning, and i thought
i can do that.
i've been waiting for something to say
in writing
the longer i'm waiting, the more momentous
it would seem to need to be
to justify the delay.
but maybe
it strikes me
the writing is the thing, not the saying.
if you are in the act of writing,
you will of necessity be saying something
and that might be the obvious way
to find out what needs saying.
