Working Theories

A workable theory is beautiful in itself, even if it is describing how things got so fucked up.

Recess is almost over....

The reign of Boomer terror in the white house is over. Sara Palin was born in 1964 -- she's one of my generation of Nomad "Thirteeners."

Goodness gracious, of apathy I sing,
the Baby Boomers had it all, and wasted everything.
Now recess is almost over, and they won't get off the swing!

Yes we can

Last night, we watched Obama's speech together, and found it to be very inspiring -- not least because when he said in the middle "I get it," he wasn't just saying that he understands voter's concerns....he was in the midst of showing that he "gets" how to make a good argument for himself.

We were impressed, and are very hopeful, damnit.

Since we're fortunate enough to have some money, we'll probably send him some more, too. Afterall, he's one of our generation (one of the oldest of our generation of Thirteeners -- see http://www.fourthturning.com/html/generations___archetypes.html for what the hell I mean by "generations" in this post).

Interesting side note, Biden was born in the last year of my parents' Artist generation, while Obama was born in the first year of my Nomad generation....neatly skipping the Prophet generation of Boomers in the middle...so there!

Wa-ha-ha....

McCain is a member of the Artist generation, and in that sense is very likely to actually be "too old" to win the job -- through this lens, it has less to do with actual age, than with generational membership. The Prophet generation "Boomers" (Bill Clinton and the Current Occupant) have already come to power in the Presidency, taking that power directly from the "Hero" generation before them (the "Greatest Generation" in an unbroken line of presidents from Kennedy through George HW). So the Artists got skipped for the Presidency, and it would be historically out-of-sync for them to get it now.

No worries for my parent's generation, though, as they have been holding many seats in Congress and the Courts all these years, and exercising power in those venues, as is historically typical of their generational type.

Quote of the Day (Yesterday)

From Biden's speech Tuesday night at the convention:

Let me make this pledge to you right here and now. For every American who is trying to do the right thing, for all those people in government who are honoring the pledge to uphold the law and honor the Constitution, no longer will you hear the eight most-dreaded words in the English language, "The vice president's office is on the phone."
